How to connect PowerTap mobile & P1 pedals and general usage

This article deals with P1 connection and setup only. If you see the article about what P1's are, how they work, what data can you read out of the advanced pedal metrics etc., click here.

Provide login. Login data from Rouvy app are the same for the PowerTap and conversely.

Click Sign up if you don't have the account yet.

 

 

Fill your desired username, password and correct email address. After you fill all the fields click Signup button. The app will ask you to change the username if your desired username is already taken.

 

 

Whenever you open the App for the first time you will be asked to create a Sports Profile. Click Create new Sport Profile, then select sport. It doesn't make much difference, the main difference is how each activity is named. For the pedal usage please select Cycling. After choosing the sport, click Create to continue.

 

 

The Cycling Profile screen will show up, where are options for bike description (Name of the profile, Sport, Weight of the bike, and Circumference). There is also an option to turn on/off the GPS sensor - there is no need to have GPS on for indoor usage.

Select Add Sensor button to scan for all sensors available for the App (Heart rate, Speed & Cadence, Power Meters and P1 pedals). Check if you have your sensors turned on as your Bluetooth on your device (iPhone/iPad). If the Bluetooth will be off the App will warn you.

 

 

Before the scan, make sure your pedals are on by pedaling. There is green LED diode on the inner side which must flash. Right pedal will show up as P1.R, left one as P1.L. You need to have both pedals connected to show the power data in the App.

Simply click on P1.R and P1.L to connect them. If the green 'Connected' text will appear you know you have them connected.

 

 

To save connected pedals click <Back button, the pedals will be linked to your Sports Profile until the sensors are deleted out of the Sports profile or deleting the Sports profile itself. Therefore, the pedals will automatically connect with next start of the app.

You can see connected pedals in Cycling Profile. Select Save. Otherwise, the whole process will be deleted and you would need to repeat it.

 

 

By clicking Save button you will be redirected to the main page of the App where you can start the Ride.

 

 

If you have no Speed/Cadence sensor turn off the Auto Pause because P1 pedals don't measure speed, therefore the training would be paused even if you would spin the pedals, because you are not able to use GPS sensor inside. When you ride outside there is no need to turn off Auto Pause, if you have GPS on.

You can turn off AutoPause in the Menu - Settings - General Settings when you swap AutoPause to off position. After you turn it off just click <Back button to get back to the main screen.

 

 

You can also get back to the main screen by clicking Record button located on the bottom of the screen.

 

 

Now you are ready to start the ride with your P1 pedals and check the analysis from pedals in the app.

The main Ride screen is available even without P1 pedals. There you can see basic training info, which comes from connected sensors and/or GPS.

 

 

You can switch between screen by swiping left or right. Those screens are not available without P1's connected. This screen shows you Pedal Balance.

 

 

Next screen shows another data to analyze your pedaling. Radial Power, Pedal Angle and Radial Power as a heat map. To switch between those screens tap to blank white space.

When you are done with the activity press Pause button. In the left-hand bottom corner will appear Menu button which will replace the Lap button. In the menu select Finish button (flag) to finish the activity. The activity will be sent to Training diary. The pedal data will not be sent although. You can review data in Menu - Activities and under activity, there will be a recorded process of pedaling.
