In-ride chat

In-ride chat lets you exchange real-time text messages with other riders during a ride or workout.

Whether you're riding with friends, coordinating during a race, or making a long Zone 2 session more social, chat helps you stay connected while you ride.

How in-ride chat works

In-ride chat is designed for live conversations during an active cycling session.

Messages are shared between riders on the same route, including riders in both Ride mode and Workout mode.

Note: Chat is available in events but it follows the same visibility rules as ride mode.

On any route, you see riders doing a regular ride or a workout, but not those riding an event on the same route at the same time.

This means that event riders and ride-mode riders won't see each other's messages, even when they share a route.

Chat is only available while actively riding a route or workout. Messages are not saved after the session ends and cannot be viewed outside of an active ride.

While riding, you can view:

  • Messages from other riders,
  • Rider usernames,
  • Message timestamps.

You'll only see messages sent after you joined the ride, along with a small amount of recent chat history from before you joined. You can scroll through messages from your current session only.

Sending messages

In-ride chat is available in both the ROUVY App and the Companion App.

The first version supports text messages only. If your device's keyboard includes dictation, you can use that to enter messages by voice, which is especially useful for in-ride chat through the Companion App.

Features such as reply threads, reactions, media sharing, muting, blocking, and reporting riders directly from chat are not currently available.

To help keep conversations enjoyable for everyone:

  • Messages have a character limit,
  • Sending too many messages in a short period may trigger automatic spam protection,
  • A profanity filter is enabled,
  • Riders flagged for cheating during a ride, such as having suspiciously constant watts or unrealistically high output, are blocked from chat.

When using the Companion App:

  • New messages are highlighted,
  • You'll receive notifications for incoming chat messages.
Important: If you experience inappropriate behavior in chat, please contact the ROUVY Support Team using this form.

Chat settings

You can disable in-ride chat at any time if you prefer a distraction-free experience.

Your chat preference is saved to your account and automatically syncs across your devices.

Chat settings are stored separately for rides and workouts. For example, you can keep chat enabled during social rides while disabling it during workouts.

Disable in-ride chat in the ROUVY App

To disable the chat widget:

  • Select 'Menu' in the top-right corner during the ride.

Privacy and moderation

In-ride chat is session-based. Messages are only available during the current ride and are not retained after the session ends.

To help keep conversations respectful, ROUVY uses moderation tools including spam protection and a profanity filter.

Currently, riders cannot mute, block, or report other users directly through in-ride chat. If you encounter inappropriate behavior, please contact the ROUVY Support Team using this form.
