We recommend downloading route videos before the ride.
This helps prevent connection dropouts, app crashes, and slow loading.
This article will guide you through the download process and show you how to manage your downloaded routes for the best ROUVY cycling experience.
What to Check Before Downloading
Before downloading a route, check these three key things:
- Your Internet connection speed. A slow or unstable connection can cause download failures. Wi-Fi quality may vary depending on where your trainer is set up, especially in places like attics or basements. Take a look at this article to learn more.
- Firewall and antivirus permissions. The ROUVY app can be blocked by your firewall or antivirus software, which makes downloading impossible. Make sure the app is allowed through: this article explains how.
- Available storage on your device. If your device runs out of space, downloads will fail. To save space, delete routes you no longer need or choose a lower video quality.
Tips for a Smooth Download
Download speed mostly depends on your Internet connection, but here are a few things that can help:
- Avoid switching to other apps while downloading.
- Make sure there is enough free storage for the video file.
- Delete unused routes. You can always re-download them later.
- Choose a lower video quality if downloads are taking too long.
- Reduce network traffic by closing apps like YouTube or Netflix.
How to Download the Video
Select the route you want to ride, then on the route detail screen click the Download button.
Choosing the video quality
ROUVY asks which quality you want before it starts downloading. Four levels are available.
| Quality | When to pick it |
| 540 | The smallest files. Worth it on a small screen, on a slow connection, or when your device is nearly full. |
| 720 | A good middle ground for a tablet or a laptop screen. |
| 1080 (HD) | The usual choice for a monitor or a TV. |
| 1440 (2K) | The sharpest picture and the largest files. Best on a big screen, and the most demanding on storage. |
|
Quality costs storage Every step up makes the file on your device noticeably bigger, and a full drive is the most common reason a download fails. The quality you download is a separate choice from the quality you stream. Streaming quality lives in the app's Graphics settings, where Auto matches the picture to your connection as you ride. |
Once the download starts:
- the download progress replaces the download button;
- clicking the button again pauses the download if you need to.
Once the download is complete, the Downloaded icon appears.
Where to Find your Downloaded Route
In the ROUVY app:
- click your profile icon in the top-left corner of the app to open the menu;
- scroll down and click Downloads.
Here you will see all your downloaded routes. Use Sort to arrange them by rating, distance, elevation and more.
To ride a downloaded route, just click its tile. It takes you straight to the start screen.
There is a second way in: click Routes in the left-hand menu and open the Downloaded routes tile. It is the same collection, sitting alongside your Favourites and your Ride later queue.
If you need the files themselves, they live here:
- Windows: C:\Users\"username"\AppData\LocalLow\VirtualTraining\Rouvy AR\data\videos
- Mac: /Users/"Macusername"/Library/Application Support/eu.virtualtraining.rouvy.mac/data/videos
How to Delete a Downloaded Route
To remove a route and free up storage:
- open Downloads from your profile menu in the top-left corner;
- click Edit collection at the top of the screen;
- click the bin icon on every route you want to delete;
- click Finish editing to save your changes.
This removes the video files from your device and frees up the space. The routes themselves stay in ROUVY, so you can download them again whenever you want.
