Unified Riding Mode: One Way to Ride

We’re simplifying the way you ride on ROUVY.

Just Ride and Time Trial modes have been merged into one unified riding mode. This update makes it easier for everyone to enjoy rides, take on challenges, and get the most from every session.

What is the difference?

The unified riding mode combines the best of Just Ride and Time Trial, creating a simpler and more intuitive way to ride, without sacrificing the features you already know and use.

Now, click the 'Start Ride' button, and you're ready to go!

Ride setup

Next to the 'Start Ride' button is the 'Ride setup' option, which gives you quick access to essential settings before you begin.

Here’s what you can customize:

  • Add virtual partners: Click 'Add' to invite your friends to join the ride.
  • Ghost riders: Add up to 10 ghost riders or remove them as needed. More info in this article.
  • Reality level: Adjust how realistic your ride feels.
Note: Your ride won't count toward leaderboards or challenges if the reality level is set below 100%.
  • Drafting: This is optional and does not affect leaderboards or challenges. You can toggle it here. More info on drafting is here.
  • Warm-up and cooldown: Add time before or after your ride to ease in or cool down. This is off by default but can be easily switched on.
  • Compare with my PR: Off by default, but you can turn it on to challenge yourself against your personal records.

At the bottom:

  • The Start Ride button begins your ride.
  • The Set to Default button resets your settings to the defaults.

Teleport and Reality Level

While most settings won’t affect your challenge or leaderboard progress, there are two that will:

  • Changing the reality level, and
  • Using teleportation pins (to skip ahead on the route).

If you use either, your ride won’t count toward challenges or leaderboards.

Important: If you want to ride only a specific ROUVY Segment, you can move your position pin. However, to earn trophies or appear on segment leaderboards, the segment must be:

  • Ridden in full,
  • Completed with 100% reality level,
  • Free of any teleportation (moving your position pin).

Learn more about ROUVY Segments here.

What is Reality Level?

Reality level controls how closely your trainer simulates real-world terrain.

  • At 100%, the resistance matches the actual gradients of the route.
  • Lowering the level reduces difficulty, and climbs become easier.
  • Increasing it makes the ride more intense and physically demanding.

This gives you full control over your training intensity based on your fitness and goals.

Warnings

To keep everything clear, we’ve added helpful warnings in three places:

  • Before your ride: If the reality level is lowered, a warning appears on the route detail page.
  • During your ride: If changing any setting affects your ride’s eligibility for leaderboards or challenges, you’ll see a prompt.
  • When resuming an in-progress ride: You’ll be asked whether to restart it. If you continue from where you left off, that ride won’t count toward challenges or leaderboards.
  • Jumping to a friend on the route also counts as teleporting. You’ll get a notification explaining this skips part of the route.

You’ll always be informed if your settings affect your ride’s eligibility.

Riding Screen in the Unified Mode

The riding screen itself hasn’t changed.

You’ll still see your route profile and all the widgets you’re used to. Check out our support article for more on customizing your riding screen.

Don't stop just after one route

After completing a route, ROUVY will recommend a new one that matches your preferences.

  • You can repeat the same route or select a new one instantly.
  • If the route you completed is part of a Challenge, the next route in that Challenge will appear automatically.

No need to get off the bike! Just pick your next route and click 'Start', or keep pedaling into your next ride.
