Not every ROUVY route looks the same on screen. Some have riders and 3D objects around you, some are video only, and some are ridden on a map.
This article explains what you are looking at, what the labels on a route tile mean, and how to find the kind of route you want.

The AR and 2K labels are gone Route tiles no longer carry an AR badge or a 2K badge. Nothing was taken away from your rides. The routes you know are the same routes, and avatars still appear on them exactly as before. We simply stopped labelling something that applies to almost every route in the library. |
Enhanced Routes
Enhanced is a new label for routes whose video has been remastered.
On an Enhanced route you get higher visual clarity, smoother playback when you change speed, a higher frame rate, and fewer artifacts on the road and around it. The difference is easiest to notice when you are riding slowly.
- Enhanced is a label on an existing route, not a separate route. Your Favourites, your Ride Later list and your downloads all still point at the same route.
- Look for the ENHANCED badge in the top-right corner of the route tile.
- In route search, tap the Enhanced filter to see only these routes.
- There is also an Enhanced Routes collection on the Routes screen.
We are steadily remastering more of the library, starting with the most popular routes. If a route you love is not Enhanced yet, it may well be later.
What Kind of Route Am I Riding?
Two things describe every route: what you see while you ride, and who made it.
The two are independent. A community route can have avatars, and an official ROUVY route can be map only.
What you see
- Routes with avatars. Real video of a real road, with your avatar and other riders added into it. This is what most of the ROUVY library is, and it is what used to be labelled AR.
- Video only routes. Real video, but no avatars and no 3D objects. You ride the footage itself. These used to be called non-AR routes.
- Map routes, also called GPX routes. No video at all. You ride a course on a map view, with your stats on screen. IRONMAN and Challenge Family courses are often of this kind, and so is any route you import yourself.
Who made it
- Official ROUVY routes are made from ROUVY video footage, shot to the highest ROUVY standards. They are marked with the ROUVY symbol in the top-right corner of the route tile.
- Community routes are created by other riders in the ROUVY Route Creator. They can be routes with avatars and other augmented reality features, or map only routes. The only difference is that ROUVY did not make them.
Community routes are hidden from search by default. Turn on Include community routes in the filters to see them, and do browse through them, there are some hidden gems in there.
Choosing What Appears in Search
Open Search routes and tap FILTERS. Three toggles decide which routes are included in your results.
- Include ridden routes: on by default. Turn it off to hide routes you have already ridden and see only new ones.
- Include community routes: off by default. Routes created by other riders with the ROUVY Route Creator.
- Include video only routes: off by default. Routes with video but without avatars.

Finding IRONMAN and Other Map Routes
Type the name straight into Search routes. Searching for the event, for example IRONMAN Wisconsin, is the fastest way to reach it.
You can also browse them as a set. On the Routes screen, scroll to Route collections and look for IRONMAN GPX Routes, IRONMAN Archive or Challenge Family GPX Routes.
If a course does not appear, open FILTERS and check the toggles above. A filter left on from an earlier search is the usual reason a route seems to be missing.
Riding Your Own Route
You can bring your own course into ROUVY.
- Upload a GPX or FIT file through the Riders Portal and ride it on a map. Full instructions in GPX route import: Train on your exact course.
- Record and publish a full video route with the ROUVY Route Creator. Routes made this way are the community routes named above.
