Unified Riding Mode: One Way to Ride

We're simplifying the way you ride on ROUVY.

Just Ride and Time Trial modes have been merged into one unified riding mode. This update makes it easier for everyone to enjoy rides, take on challenges, and get the most from every session.

What is the difference?

The unified riding mode combines the best of Just Ride and Time Trial.

It is a simpler and more intuitive way to ride, without sacrificing the features you already know and use.

Click Start Ride, and you are ready to go.

Ride setup

Next to Start Ride is Ride setup, which gives you quick access to the essential settings before you begin.

Here is what you can customize:

  • Pace Partners: click Add to put up to 10 of them on the route with you. You can choose pacing partners that hold a power target, drafting partners that ride just ahead of you, or User Pace Partners, which replay a real rider's previous ride on the same route. User Pace Partners are what used to be called Virtual Partners. Everything they can do is in Pace Partners.
  • Ghost riders: add up to 10 ghost riders or remove them as needed. More info in this article.
  • Reality level: adjust how realistic your ride feels.
Your ride will not count toward leaderboards or challenges if the reality level is set below 100%.
  • Drafting: optional, and it does not affect leaderboards or challenges. You can toggle it here. More info on drafting is here.
  • Warm-up and cooldown: add time before or after your ride to ease in or cool down. Off by default, but easy to switch on.
  • Compare with my PR: off by default. Turn it on to challenge yourself against your personal records.

At the bottom:

  • Start Ride begins your ride;
  • Set to Default resets your settings to the defaults.

Teleport and Reality Level

Most ride settings have no effect on your results. Two of them do:

  • changing the reality level, and
  • using teleport to skip ahead on the route.

If you use either, your ride will not count toward challenges or leaderboards.

Teleport works only during a ride

Teleport becomes available once your ride is running. If nothing happens when you try to teleport, the ride has not started yet: start riding first, then teleport. Full details in this article.

Riding a single ROUVY Segment

If you want to ride only one ROUVY Segment, you can teleport to it. To earn trophies or appear on segment leaderboards, that segment itself has to be:

  • ridden in full,
  • completed at 100% reality level,
  • free of any teleporting.

Learn more in ROUVY Segments.

What is Reality Level?

Reality level controls how closely your trainer simulates real-world terrain.

  • at 100%, the resistance matches the actual gradients of the route;
  • lowering the level reduces difficulty, and climbs become easier;
  • increasing it makes the ride more intense and physically demanding.

This gives you full control over your training intensity based on your fitness and goals.

Warnings

You will always be told when a setting affects your ride's eligibility. There are warnings in four places:

  • Before your ride: if the reality level is lowered, a warning appears on the route detail page.
  • During your ride: if changing a setting affects your ride's eligibility for leaderboards or challenges, you will see a prompt.
  • When resuming an in-progress ride: you will be asked whether to restart it. If you continue from where you left off, that ride will not count toward challenges or leaderboards.
  • When you jump to a friend on the route: that counts as teleporting, and you will get a notification explaining it skips part of the route.

Riding Screen in the Unified Mode

The riding screen itself has not changed. You will still see your route profile and all the widgets you are used to.

Check out this article for more on customizing your riding screen.

Don't stop just after one route

After completing a route, ROUVY recommends a new one that matches your preferences.

  • you can repeat the same route or select a new one instantly;
  • if the route you completed is part of a Challenge, the next route in that Challenge appears automatically.

No need to get off the bike. Just pick your next route and click Start, or keep pedaling into your next ride.

You can enable or disable this feature in app Settings.

If you prefer to line your rides up in advance instead, put them in your Ride later queue.
