Challenges

ROUVY Challenges give you a goal to ride toward: a set of routes, a distance, or a stage-by-stage journey, with rewards when you finish.

Each challenge has its own target, time window, and rewards, such as Coins and Experience and virtual items to customize your Avatar and bike. You'll find all of this on the challenge tile before you join.

If you've joined a challenge but can't ride it after all, there's no need to do anything. You can stay registered.

Types of challenges

Challenges on ROUVY come in a few types, and each type counts your rides a little differently. The general rules in this article apply to all of them. Long-term challenges and the Community Challenge have extra rules, so each has its own article.

Type How it works More info
Route challenges

Ride every route on the challenge list, each one in full.

Most location, seasonal, and event challenges work this way.

Some, like Beat the CEO, ask you to beat a set time on a segment.

Distance and elevation challenges

Collect a total distance or elevation gain over several rides, on any route.

Quarterly challenges and the Festive 500 are examples. Group Rides count toward these goals too.

Long-term challenges

A journey across several locations over a few months.

New stages unlock week by week, you can catch up on earlier ones, and rewards depend on your subscription.

Great World Adventure (GWA)
Community Challenge Once a year, the whole ROUVY community rides toward one shared distance goal, stage by stage. Indoor and outdoor rides count. Community Challenge 2026
Partner challenges Challenges run with a partner, such as STRAVA, with the partner's own rules and prizes. ROUVY and STRAVA

Joining a challenge

We count all valid rides you complete during the challenge period, even if you join the challenge later.

So if you join a challenge after it has started, the valid rides you've done since its start date still count. To add them to your progress, click Join Challenge on the challenge tile.

The Community Challenge is the exception: its distance counts per stage, and a stage that has closed can't be filled in later. Its article explains how that works.

Rules for challenge routes

For a route to count toward a challenge, follow these rules:

  • Ride the full route in one go.
  • Don't teleport. Moving your position pin skips part of the route, and a challenge route has to be ridden in full. More about this in Teleport (moving your position pin on the routes).
  • Don't pause for more than 2 hours.
  • Set your reality level to 100%. Read more about reality level in Unified Riding Mode.
  • Don't change your weight to gain an advantage.
  • Don't ride it in a Group Ride. A route ridden in a Group Ride doesn't count toward a challenge, and this applies to the leader too.
  • Ride the exact route listed in the challenge. Routes with similar names won't count, so double-check before you start.
  • Workouts can count toward challenges too. If you skip more than 20% of a workout's planned time, it no longer counts. Read more in Workouts in ROUVY.

When a ride doesn't count

If any of these rules is broken, the ride won't count toward the challenge. You can ride the route again to complete it.

Challenge rewards

When you complete a challenge by the rules, your reward unlocks right after you finish the ride.

You can see the rewards for each challenge on its tile, on the web and in the app. This also applies to the Free Trial Challenge.

Troubleshooting

My ride didn't count toward the challenge ▶

Check it against the rules for challenge routes: a Group Ride, a teleport, a long pause, or a reality level below 100% are the most common reasons. For how ROUVY checks rides in general, see Activity validation: why a ride didn't count.

I rode the route before joining ▶

That's fine. Rides from the challenge period count once you click Join Challenge.

I finished, but my reward isn't there ▶

Rewards unlock right after the ride. If you still can't see yours, contact us with the name of the challenge and the date of your ride.
